Amanda Rae Auen, age 30, of Carroll, passed away on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll.

On Wednesday, December 5, 2018, a visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll, Iowa.

On Saturday, December 8, 2018, a funeral service will held at 11:00 a.m. at the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr is in charge of the local arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to a memorial fund for a scholarship to be established for Amanda’s children.

Amanda, the daughter of Edwin and Michelle (Wilmes) Rotert, Jr., was born July 14, 1988 in Des Moines, Iowa. She grew up in Mount Ayr, Iowa and graduated from Mount Ayr Community High School in 2007. After high school, she enrolled at Hawkeye Community College, and later graduated with a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Kaplan University.

While at Hawkeye Community College Amanda met her future husband Dustin Auen, and they were married on October 4, 2014 in Lake View, Iowa. The couple made their home in Carroll. Amanda and Dustin welcomed their children, and Amanda embraced her role as a mother. In addition to being a devoted mother, she also ran her in-home daycare. She loved children and helping people with special needs.

Amanda enjoyed art, photography, drawing, music, and being creative with many craft projects. She enjoyed restoring furniture with Dustin, where Amanda had a talent to see the potential in any antiquated object. Amanda will be remembered for her fearlessness, and selflessness, always putting a side her needs for the needs of others.

Left to celebrate Amanda’s life is her husband Dustin Auen of Carroll; her sons: Edwin Joseph Auen, and Gavin James Auen, both at home; her parents: Edwin Jr., and Michelle Rotert of Mount Ayr; her siblings: Jessica (Lucan) Triggs of Mount Ayr, Anthony Rotert of Mount Ayr, Alex (Ashley) Rotert of Knoxville; her parents-in-law: Bruce and Kathy Auen of Lake View; her brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law: Edward Dougherty of Omaha, NE, Rob (Joni) Hansen of Sac City, Chelsi (Hector) Karlton of LeMars, Chad (Jenna) Auen of Clarks Grove, MN, Cody Auen of Carroll, Caiden Auen of Lake View; her grandparents, Pam Wilmes of Sioux City, Loretta Rotert of Algona; Larry and Sandra Lamb of Mt. Ayr, Shirley Heim of Lake View; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-niece, and other extended relatives and friends.

Amanda was preceded in death by her grandfathers Mark Wilmes, and Edwin Rotert, Sr.; and Dustin’s grandparents: Marvin “Red” Auen, Leslie Heim, Edward and Marilyn Render.
