Marvin Lee Sobotka was born to Otto and Albena (Jezek) on February 17, 1924 in Benton, Iowa.  He graduated from Benton High School in 1941.  After graduating he went into the United States Air Force and served until the end of the war in 1945.  During this time, he served with the 98th Bomb Group and flew 50 combat missions in a B-24 bomber in the war in Europe.  His group flew the most missions of any bomb group in the war.

Marvin was united in marriage to Margaret Lucille (Yashack) on August 16, 1947.  They lived on a farm south of Diagonal where they raised hogs and chickens.  On October of 1964 they were joined by a baby boy, Rex David Sobotka.  With time permitting they travelled the United States from border to border and coast to coast.  The couple was married for 58 years before Margaret’s death in 2006.  Marvin and Rex continued to live on the farm until Marvin’s death on October 13, 2018.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; wife Margaret; brothers Bob Sobotka and Carol Sobotka and sister Dorothy Sobotka.

He is survived by his son Rex Sobotka of Diagonal; sister-in-law Arlene Sobotka of Diagonal and extended family.
